Currently there is rampart human rights violation in Uganda as a whole and Mukono district in particular especially among girls and women affected and infected with HIVS/AIDS. Such cases of violation include: forced Marriage, Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV), human sacrifice, rape, defilement, widow inheritance, unfair land laws and discrimination/sectarianism among others.
It is through that background that Sikyomu Development Organization for PHAs (SDO) partnered with UGANET and trained paralegals to handle cases of Human rights violation among the marginalized population.
Sikyomu Development Organization in partnership with UGANET trained ten paralegals in Mukono district alone and these are currently sensitizing and creating awareness among the marginalized groups. This has so far reduced on forced Marriage, Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV), human sacrifice, rape, defilement, widow inheritance, unfair land laws and discrimination/sectarianism among others, because most of them, the marginalized have now got to know their rights and the actions to be taken in case of any violation.
Currently the paralegals trained in Mukono are covering 6 sub- counties of Ntenjeru, Mpatta, Mpunge, islands of Koome, Nakisunga, Nama and the lake shores of Lake Victoria. Our plan is to reach out to the whole of Mukono district by 2017 and also spread out to the neighboring districts
